Trump’s Border Handling Discussed by Jeffries

House Majority Leader Hakeem Jeffries from New York commented on Wednesday regarding President Donald Trump’s management of the border issue, suggesting he deserves some recognition for it.

While discussing whether Trump has met his campaign pledges on CNN’s “The Situation Room,” Jeffries took a critical stance on Trump’s effectiveness with issues like the affordability crisis. However, co-host Pamela Brown pointed out that the border situation might be an exception where Trump has shown improvement.

Brown mentioned, “Even if you disagree with the enforcement methods, data indicates that the U.S. Border Patrol has released illegal immigrants for six straight months. Furthermore, the daily apprehension rates at the Southwest border are currently lower than they were during the Biden administration. Are you willing to acknowledge Trump’s role in that?”

Jeffries responded by asserting that while Democrats are committed to maintaining secure borders, the actions of Republicans have frustrated many Americans, especially those who are law-abiding yet face deportation.

“Republicans claim they are targeting violent offenders, and we back that. But in reality, they are harming families, including the children of U.S. citizens, which is totally unacceptable. This does not sit well with the American public; hence, Trump’s immigration approval ratings have dropped by 25 points recently,” Jeffries expressed.

Brown then acknowledged the mixed public opinion about enforcement tactics but suggested that perhaps Trump could be credited for reducing border crossings, which were notoriously high under Biden. “Can we give him any credit for making the border more secure?” she asked.

Jeffries conceded some credit might be warranted, saying, “The border is indeed more secure, and that’s good. It did happen during his presidency, so he’ll get some recognition for that. But, it leaves a lot to be desired regarding addressing significant issues, including immigration itself.”

The discussion ended with the White House reacting to Jeffries’ remarks, stating, “A broken clock is right twice a day.”

Press Secretary Abigail Jackson remarked, “While Jeffries can’t ignore Trump’s achievements in border security, he seems compelled to misrepresent facts to satisfy his left-wing supporters. It’s unfortunate that he cannot acknowledge the president’s genuine accomplishments.”
