Disappearance of Virginia High School Football Coach Amid Child Pornography Charges
Travis Turner, a high school football coach in Virginia, vanished shortly before being pursued on child pornography charges. His family shared a poignant message urging him to confront the allegations against him.
Turner was last seen entering the woods on November 20, leaving his car, keys, contact lenses, glasses, and daily medication at home in Appalachia. Adrian Collins, the family attorney, noted that Turner’s wallet, driver’s license, and cash were also left behind.
Collins previously stated that Turner, a well-regarded head coach at Union High School in Big Stone Gap, had fled into a wooded area with a firearm. “He’s done this many times over the years,” Collins remarked regarding Turner’s walks into the woods.
Leslie Caudill Turner, Turner’s wife, reached out to authorities when he didn’t return home and filed a missing persons report the next day. Collins clarified that Turner wasn’t a fugitive at the time of his disappearance, as the police had not yet filed charges until days later.
He also dismissed any implication that Caudill Turner played a role in her husband’s vanishing. “My wife wasn’t helping him escape; she was asking for help finding him,” Collins said.
The family lawyer emphasized that Leslie and their children were devastated by his disappearance and hoped for his safe return. “Leslie is pleading with you to come home and defend yourself in court,” Collins stated. “They love you and miss you. They want you to know they have your support.”
Initially treated as a routine missing person case, state police soon revealed that the 46-year-old married father was wanted on five counts of child pornography and five counts of soliciting a minor online.
Virginia State Police, with assistance from the FBI and U.S. Marshals Service, are actively searching for Turner. A $5,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to his arrest.
Following the warrant for his arrest, Leslie, who has been married to Turner for 25 years, deleted her social media accounts. Authorities have cautioned that Turner may be armed and advised the public to exercise care if they encounter him.
Union High School removed him from its staff roster after the allegations surfaced. Before Turner’s disappearance, he had led the football team to an undefeated season. Since then, the team has triumphed in two playoff games and is now headed to the state semifinals following a win in the regional championship.
