FBI Captures Pipe Bomb Suspect Using Public Information

Brian Cole, the suspect linked to a pipe bomb incident in Washington, D.C., was apprehended by agents from the Trump administration, relying solely on public information and traditional investigative methods, FBI Director Kash Patel revealed on Thursday.

Although a $500,000 reward had been offered for tips regarding the individual who planted the bomb at a political office, the Biden administration had not managed to make any arrests during its tenure related to this case.

In contrast, the FBI under Trump managed to resolve the case, which had remained unsolved for nearly five years, without receiving any new leads.

“The FBI utilized all accessible data, incorporated advanced technology, and gathered a team of experts nationwide to methodically compile the evidence necessary to pinpoint this suspect,” Patel explained. “This advancement stemmed not from fresh information, but from the undeterred efforts of the FBI.”

Cole was taken into custody on Thursday morning, suspected of planting the bomb outside the Democratic National Committee the evening before the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. FBI agents arrived at the Cole family’s residence in Woodbridge, Virginia, early Thursday to collect evidence and secure the area.

In the wake of the January 6 events, the FBI had arrested and charged many rioters, with 1,600 later pardoned by Trump. However, the bureau spent years unable to identify those responsible for placing the bombs prior to Congress gathering to certify the 2020 electoral votes.

On the day of the incident, both then-Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi were reportedly near the bomb as they moved to and from the DNC headquarters on South Capitol Street.

Patel noted that upon taking office, a new investigation into the case was initiated by the FBI.

“Our team revisited the case from scratch after previous leadership had failed to yield results for four years,” he stated. “We strategized the investigation, gathered evidence, executed a search warrant, and eventually took this individual into custody.”

“This reflects what a dedicated and disciplined office can accomplish for the American public,” he concluded.
