Protesters Target Synagogue Event in Los Angeles
A group of anti-Semitic protesters demonstrated outside the Mid-Wilshire Synagogue in Los Angeles, unleashing aggressive and violent rhetoric towards people attending an event there.
A video shared on X captured the chaos as the group chanted “Liberate Palestine” in front of the Wilshire Boulevard Temple on Wednesday.
As worshipers arrived, protesters, some with their faces concealed, shouted insults and made threats, vying against an atmosphere filled with tension. Reports indicate that some individuals even entered the synagogue and caused damage to property inside.
Lei Wu Corpuz, a 24-year-old individual, was arrested on suspicion of property damage linked to the protests. Public records reveal Corpuz resides in a home valued at around $1 million in Irvine, California.
The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles described the protests as “hate disguised as dissent,” reflecting a growing concern over such incidents.
Mayor Bass, facing backlash for apparent inaction in safeguarding local religious sites, quickly condemned the protest. He deployed additional police to the area and met with Rabbi Joel Nickerson to address the situation.
Meanwhile, in New York City, another protest occurred at Park East Synagogue, where around 200 demonstrators shouted slogans like “Globalize the Intifada!” and “Death to the IDF!” This protest coincided with an event supporting Jewish immigration to Israel.
Fortunately, Holocaust survivors who attended the event noted that the police did a commendable job of ensuring the safety of participants.
