AR-15 reportedly discovered under Florida college student's bed after he purchased 1,500 rounds of ammunition for his dorm.

A college student in Florida ordered 1,500 rounds of ammunition for his dorm room, leading to the discovery of a semi-automatic rifle concealed under his bed, according to police and media reports.

Constantine Demetriades, 21, was taken into custody on Wednesday after Rollins College security reported his online ammunition order. This information was detailed in the complaint.

When police arrived, they found an AR-15 rifle along with six magazines—one loaded and five empty—as well as a tactical vest, several knives, a black security vest, earmuffs, and a pistol storage case, as confirmed by local authorities.

Although Florida permits open carry, Rollins College prohibits all weapons on its campus. The college’s policy is clearly stated on its website.

Demetriades acknowledged knowing about the school’s weapons ban. He explained that he purchased the rifle in New Jersey during Thanksgiving, registered it, and brought it back to campus, as indicated in court documents.

He mentioned to authorities that he enjoys shooting recreationally and claimed he had no harmful intent. He usually keeps his firearm at a friend’s house off campus, and reportedly, he was unaware that his New Jersey concealed carry permit was invalid in Florida.

The student admitted to bringing a firearm to campus on just one occasion.

The liberal arts college is investigating the situation and has suspended him from campus until the investigation concludes.

“On Wednesday, the university received a report concerning breaches of its weapons policy and immediately initiated an investigation,” the university stated. “We promptly identified and contacted the student, who was cooperative with university and local law enforcement as the situation was further examined. The student has been arrested and is prohibited from returning to campus during the conduct review.”
