Clyburn Agrees with Michelle Obama on Readiness for a Female President

Representative James Clyburn (D.C.) shared his thoughts on Sunday, stating that former First Lady Michelle Obama was “absolutely correct” in her assertion that the U.S. is not prepared for a female president.

“History shows we’re not there yet,” Clyburn expressed on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” He noted that women like Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris are doing remarkable work, but emphasized the importance of progress, saying, “We can’t turn back the clock. We’ve taken steps forward. Let’s not regress in this election.”

Michelle Obama’s remarks, made last month while promoting her new book “The Look,” highlighted the recent loss of former Vice President Kamala Harris to President Donald Trump in the 2024 race as a sign that the nation is “not ready.”

She stated, “Unfortunately, as we have seen in past elections, we are not prepared. So don’t get your hopes up. You’re not ready for a woman.” The former First Lady suggested that American men may struggle to accept female leadership.

Clyburn acknowledged the challenges faced by women in politics but insisted that efforts should continue toward electing a female president. He quoted his father, saying, “The darkest part of the night is the moment before dawn.” Clyburn optimistically noted that we could be at a turning point and urged women to run for office, sharing his support as the father of three accomplished daughters.

FOX News Digital has sought comments from President Obama’s office regarding these statements.
