Levitt Defends Trump Administration’s Actions Against Drug Traffickers

White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt recently spoke out in support of the Trump administration’s handling of airstrikes aimed at suspected drug-trafficking vessels. She accused Democrats of undermining efforts to combat cartels. “The fact that the Democratic Party has stooped so low and attacked our military leadership speaks to their depravity,” she stated during an appearance on “Fox & Friends.”

Levitt asserted that attacks were directed at dedicated military personnel executing orders from the commander-in-chief. Her remarks followed the announcement that Army Secretary Pete Hegseth is set to brief a bipartisan group of lawmakers about the situation in Venezuela. Some Democratic leaders have openly criticized the White House’s strikes on alleged narco-terrorists, labeling them as “war crimes.”

Contrary to that perspective, Levitt contended that the Trump administration was elected to maintain a vigorous stance against drug traffickers. She pointed out that the Republican platform for 2024 emphasized the need to “destroy foreign drug cartels.” “President Trump campaigned on this, and he’s following through,” she declared.

At least 22 strikes targeting suspected drug smuggling ships have occurred, with numerous fatalities reported. A particular strike in September faced significant backlash after a second operation targeted survivors from the initial attack. Questions have arisen about the information Hegseth used to authorize these actions, particularly regarding the identification of those aboard the ships.

Senator Mark Kelly raised concerns, questioning whether, without due process, such actions genuinely enhance American safety: “I don’t think so,” he remarked in a post on X. Hegseth is expected to provide an update to the Gang of Eight and other officials soon.

Levitt also mentioned individuals affected by the drug crisis, saying, “Every time President Trump, Secretary Hegseth, and the White House face criticism for destroying a drug smuggling ship, we think of Americans like Ann Fandner, who lost her 15-year-old son Weston to a drug overdose. I think it’s great that President Trump has finally recognized this issue and acted decisively.”
