A video has gained significant attention online after Crystal Wilsey, a Cinnabon employee in Wisconsin, was caught on camera using racial slurs towards a Somali couple. In the recording, she openly declared, “I’m a racist. I’m going to tell the whole world. Don’t be rude.” The confrontation began when the husband asked Wilsey, “Does sexualizing your body make you a better person?” Upon realizing the incident was being recorded, his wife confirmed, “Yes, it is,” just before the altercation escalated. The video quickly cuts to Wilsey using the slur, prompting a mix of outrage and divided opinions among viewers.
Stu Bruguiere, a host on Blaze TV, shared his thoughts on the incident, referring to it as a low point for Cinnabon. He noted that “there’s never an excuse to lose control,” while also addressing the online discourse around Wilsey’s firing. Some argued against her termination, citing concerns over cancel culture. Bruguiere stated, “It’s wrong because it’s basically cancel culture in action,” and posed the question of whether this situation was indeed an example of that culture.
Andros, a guest on Bruguiere’s show, emphasized that the essence of a customer service job is to create a pleasant experience, stating that no matter the circumstances, employees should strive to provide “a little taste of Cinnabon happiness.” Interestingly, despite the backlash against Wilsey, she has managed to raise over $100,000 on GiveSendGo since her dismissal.
Bruguiere compared the situation to hypothetical scenarios involving other service roles, arguing that any representative of a company should be held accountable for their actions. “They have the absolute right to fire you,” he concluded, summing up their stance on the matter.
