Grand Jury Declines to Indict New York Attorney General Letitia James Again

A grand jury has once again decided not to indict New York State Attorney General Letitia James, marking the second such decision within a week. The indictment, initiated by the Justice Department, failed to target one of President Donald Trump’s notable political rivals.

This most recent grand jury session happened in Alexandria, Virginia. It followed a prior decision in Norfolk, where another jury also opted not to proceed with charges against James, according to sources familiar with the situation.

The court determined that the prosecutor responsible for the case, Lindsay Harrigan, had been improperly appointed as a U.S. attorney. Consequently, the original charges were dismissed against James.

Harrigan had been installed by Attorney General Pam Bondi at Trump’s suggestion in September. The president aimed to accelerate operations by appointing Harrigan, who lacked prosecutorial experience.

Shortly after taking office, Harrigan indicted James as well as former FBI Director James Comey. However, in a notable twist, he was the sole prosecutor to sign the indictment. A federal judge later found Harrigan’s appointment to be flawed, which led to the dismissal of both cases.

Officials within the Justice Department have defended Harrigan, labeling him as “America’s attorney.” They mentioned that the executive branch ultimately decides who leads prosecutors in each district, arguing that James and Comey are trying to dismiss the indictment based merely on procedural issues.

Abby Rowell, attorney for James, commented that the “unprecedented dismissal” of charges reinforces that this case should never have been initiated. She expressed concern that it has tarnished the department’s image and raised serious questions about its integrity. Rowell also cautioned that any further attempts to revive these discredited charges would undermine the justice system.

Fox News has sought comments from a spokesperson at the Justice Department.

This is a developing story. Please stay tuned for updates.
