Award-winning musician and Congressional candidate Bobby Pulido is making headlines as he runs for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. However, his social media history contains numerous explicit references to adult content that dates back to 2013 and continues into 2024.
One noteworthy instance occurred in 2013 when Pulido encouraged followers to visit the porn site YouPorn. He even shared a link, jokingly asking whether a musician featured on the site earns royalties for their music. Later that same year, he posted another link, asking, “Homemade porn when you’re sleep deprived?”
In 2015, Pulido linked to YouPorn but later retracted the post, claiming his account had been hacked. He stated, “It’s impossible to be on Twitter and not look at porn,” in a 2014 comment about the platform, which was known as Twitter at the time. Furthermore, he mentioned in 2016 that there are countless free adult sites available after XVideos announced it was shutting down, saying, “That’s what they told me. #you’re welcome.”
His online activity traces his aspirations to unseat Rep. Monica de la Cruz (R-Texas) in what is expected to be a fiercely competitive election. Pulido’s race relies on gaining bipartisan support, especially since five Democrats may be losing their seats due to redistricting. De la Cruz, a two-term incumbent, last won her election with a substantial 57.1% of the vote over her Democratic challenger.
Despite his past, the Democratic Party reportedly hopes to bolster Pulido as a candidate. After concerns about his history surfaced, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) criticized his record, claiming he isn’t suitable for Congress. Their spokesperson described him as “radical” and “incapable of freedom.”
Known for his Tejano music, Pulido has earned numerous accolades, including a Latin Grammy for Best Tejano Album in 2022 and 2025. As he campaigns, he intends to reshape his image as a family-oriented bipartisan candidate. Notably, he has erased references to his past political stances from social media, including a controversial image of himself next to President Trump’s Hollywood star, which he had originally posted.
Pulido has tried to distance himself from his earlier online persona, emphasizing in his campaign, “I will not stand by and watch the South Texas that raised me fall apart and be divided.” Although some explicit posts have been deleted, several remain, and there are still references to his music being used in adult contexts. For instance, in 2024, he shared a photo of a fan in a compromising position at one of his concerts, which sparked backlash but remained on his profile for some time.
As a political newcomer, Pulido’s social media past raises questions about his potential support and viability in the upcoming election. His campaign has not responded to requests for comments regarding these matters.
