Friends Cast Honors Matthew Perry
Two years after the untimely passing of Matthew Perry, his Friends co-stars have come together to pay tribute to their late friend. Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, and Lisa Kudrow recently participated in a charity event supporting the Matthew Perry Foundation.
A photo shared by the group captures them signing artworks created for the charity. The post on social media noted, “The cast collaborated with @soundwaves_art and artist Tim Wakefield to create a collection of artwork this holiday season.”
“Tim translated the actual soundwaves from the Friends theme song into beautiful designs, each inspired by a different character. Each cast member signed their own little creation,” the post elaborated.
The foundation collaborated with Perry’s estate to produce a limited edition of artwork featuring the late actor’s official signature. Currently, signed prints are being sold for $600, while unsigned versions are priced at $100.
All proceeds from the event will benefit Perry’s organization, which aids those grappling with addiction, as well as other charities chosen by the cast members.
Perry tragically passed away in October 2023 at the age of 54. Authorities ruled his death an accident linked to the acute effects of ketamine. He had previously mentioned using the drug to cope with depression, but had reportedly been struggling with substance abuse in the weeks before his death.
Aniston revealed in August that the Friends castmates had tried to support Perry during his battle with addiction. “It felt like we were mourning Matthew for a long time because his struggle was really difficult for him,” she noted.
Reflecting on the emotional journey, she expressed that it’s been tough for everyone involved, including fans. However, she concluded that there’s a part of her that believes perhaps it’s better now, as her friend is “free from that pain.”
