Before their game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, the New England Patriots observed a moment of silence to remember the victims of two recent shootings. These tragic events included a shooting at Brown University and an attack during a Hanukkah event in Sydney, Australia. Both incidents resulted in multiple fatalities, with the Sydney attack being labeled a terrorist act by authorities.
A message on the videoboard at Gillette Stadium displayed a map of Australia adorned with the Brown University logo and a heart symbol to mark Sydney’s location. During CBS’s broadcast, a statement was made highlighting their remembrance: “Prior to today’s game, the Patriots held a moment of silence this morning to remember the victims of yesterday’s tragic shootings at Brown University near Providence and Bondi Beach, Australia. We join the entire NFL community in holding them and their loved ones in our thoughts.”
Brown University, located close to Foxborough, Massachusetts, saw two individuals lose their lives in the shooting, while one person of interest has been detained.
Patriots owner Robert Kraft, a notable supporter of Jewish causes aimed at combating anti-Semitism, spoke about the need for empathy, expressing concern over the direction the country seems to be heading. “The most important thing for this country that I love is, you know, this is the greatest country in the world, but we’re losing our way a little bit,” he remarked.
Additionally, the Philadelphia Eagles released a statement during their game against the Las Vegas Raiders, addressing the same issue. They said, “Over the past 24 hours, the world has experienced tragic loss of life, including the horrific shooting at Brown University and the targeted attack on the Jewish community in Sydney, Australia. Hate and acts of violence have no place in our world. We hold the victims, their families, and loved ones in our hearts.”
