Gunmen Invade Home, Kill Four in Mexico's Cartel-Dominated Border City

In a recent violent incident in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, cartel gunmen disabled a home’s security system before entering and murdering four individuals. This violence occurs despite government reassurances about the region’s safety, while the Gulf Cartel continues to instill fear among locals.

The tragic event took place over the weekend in the Colinas del Real neighborhood. A woman from McAllen became concerned when she couldn’t reach her relatives and decided to check on them. Upon arrival, she discovered the bodies of her 60-year-old uncle, his wife, and their two sons, all of whom had been shot numerous times.

Reports indicate that the house belonged to a family who owned a body shop nearby. Before launching the attack, the assailants severed the wires to the property’s security cameras and took the system’s recording device. Authorities also discovered several .380-caliber shell casings at the scene.

While the motive remains unclear, law enforcement suggests that the Gulf Cartel is likely responsible given the circumstances. Extensive collaboration between the Tamaulipas state and federal government has allowed the Gulf Cartel’s Metros faction to maintain control over Reynosa, overseeing drug and human trafficking as well as engaging in widespread extortion and kidnapping of local business owners.
