Nick Reiner Charged with Double Murder
Nick Reiner is facing charges for the double murder of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michelle Reiner. The Los Angeles County District Attorney, Nathan J. Hockman, shared the news during a Tuesday press conference alongside LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell.
“These charges include two counts of first-degree murder, under the special circumstances of multiple murders,” Hockman stated. “He also faces an additional charge for the personal use of a deadly weapon—specifically, a knife.” If convicted, Reiner could receive a sentence of life in prison without parole or even the death penalty.
Initially, Nick was set to make his first court appearance on Tuesday. However, his attorney, Alan Jackson, indicated to FOX News Digital that “he is not medically cleared for transport to court.”
Background on the Reiner Family
The bodies of Rob and Michelle Reiner were found on December 14 at their Brentwood home. In a separate press conference on a different matter, Chief McDonnell mentioned that information related to the case was still limited.
Authorities identified Nick as a suspect and arrested him on charges of murder. He remains in custody without bail.
On the afternoon of December 14, LAPD officers responded to a call regarding a death investigation on South Chadbourne Avenue. Upon entering the residence, they discovered two individuals, later identified as Robert and Michelle Reiner, prompting a further investigation by the Robbery-Homicide Division.
Nick was moved to the Twin Towers Correctional Facility on Monday, following his initial detention at the Metropolitan Detention Center and then the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles.
According to a law enforcement source who spoke on condition of anonymity, investigators suspect that Rob and Michelle sustained stab wounds.
Initially, a family spokesperson confirmed the tragic news. “It is with deep sadness that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss and ask for privacy during this incredibly difficult time,” Family spokesperson stated.
Rob and Michelle had three children together: Jake, Nick, and Romy.
