White House Pushback on Vanity Fair Article
On Tuesday, White House press secretary Caroline Levitt rejected claims made in a Vanity Fair article concerning the Trump administration, arguing that the interviewer was dishonest and left out critical information.
The article featured Susie Wiles, who served as President Trump’s White House chief of staff, making some notable statements. Wiles described Trump as having an “alcoholic personality” and suggested that Vice President J.D. Vance was a conspiracy theorist who supported Trump primarily for political gain rather than genuine conviction.
In response, Wiles took to social media, expressing her frustration with the portrayal, calling it a “hit piece” that misrepresented her and other key figures within the administration. She stated that essential context was ignored, painting a chaotic and negative picture of the president and his team.
Levitt, when asked about Wiles’ remarks during an appearance on Fox News, voiced her strong support. She called Wiles the “greatest chief of staff in our nation’s history,” illustrating her loyalty to both Wiles and Trump.
Levitt further criticized Vanity Fair, asserting that the interviewer skewed Wiles’ comments and omitted positive reflections shared about Trump and their administration’s operations. “This is yet another instance of fake news, where context is twisted,” Levitt remarked, emphasizing the issue of omission bias throughout the article.
Levitt concluded by reaffirming their commitment to “Make America Great Again,” lauding Trump for achieving more in under a year than many presidents do in two terms, alongside complimenting Wiles’ leadership. She described Wiles as a mentor, colleague, and friend.
Meanwhile, Vance, when questioned about his portrayal in the article during an event in Pennsylvania, opted out of an interview with Vanity Fair. He quipped about being a self-proclaimed conspiracy theorist but specified he only adheres to theories he believes are factual. He also shared a personal anecdote from 2020 regarding an apparent cover-up about Biden’s capabilities.
Requests for comment from Vanity Fair went unanswered.
