Soros Family’s Donations to Letitia James’ Campaigns

George Soros, the billionaire known for his far-left influence, along with his family, has contributed over $71,000 to New York Attorney General Letitia James’ campaign since 2019. This includes $31,000 aimed at supporting her re-election next year against President Trump’s longtime adversary.

Among these contributions are $18,000 from Soros made in July 2024 and an additional $13,000 from his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Soros, in May, according to records. The total contribution also encompasses an earlier $40,000 for James’ past campaigns dating back to 2019.

This substantial financial support doesn’t even cover all the backing that James receives from left-leaning organizations funded by Soros, including millions sent to the Working Families Party (WFP).

Since 2016, Soros’ Open Society Foundations have given $23.7 million to the WFP through its fundraising arm, Working Families Organization, Inc. Further, from 2018 onwards, the Soros family has contributed an additional $865,000 to the New York chapter directly, as revealed by records.

James has built a notable alliance with WFP, a relationship that stands out in New York’s political landscape.

In 2003, she marked her political debut by winning a City Council seat, becoming the first candidate from the Working Families Party to win a state election.

James didn’t pull away from WFP during her successful attorney general campaign in 2018, running as a Democrat alongside then-Governor Andrew Cuomo instead.

Even so, she has retained the party’s progressive values and secured its backing in her 2022 re-election bid.

Michael Henry, a Republican challenger aiming to defeat James in 2026, criticized Soros’ extensive funding of left-wing initiatives, stating, “Years of radical left funding often lead to instability and chaos that harm the nation.”

He remarked on the links between Soros and legal actions against Trump, suggesting that such funding endangers New Yorkers’ safety.

James has drawn national attention for pursuing multiple lawsuits against the Trump administration, including a promise made in her 2018 campaign to scrutinize Trump’s real estate dealings.

In August, Trump achieved a significant win when a state appellate board overturned over $500 million in fines linked to a lawsuit from James, who asserts the former president committed fraud by exaggerating his assets over the years.

James herself faced legal issues when indicted in October for mortgage fraud regarding properties she owns in Virginia, although she pleaded not guilty and had the case dismissed without going to trial. Attempts by the Justice Department to reindict her have not succeeded.

Trump has continued to assert that Soros is behind the legal challenges posed by James, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, and other progressive prosecutors.

Soros similarly supported Bragg’s 2021 campaign, providing $1 million to the advocacy group Color of Change’s political action committee, which then spent over $500,000 on various campaign efforts. Records reveal that Soros and his family have directly donated $43,150 to Bragg since 2021, with $22,500 given post-June.

A spokesperson for Soros declined to comment on the donations. Meanwhile, attempts to reach James’ office and her campaign for comments have been unsuccessful.
