The Ongoing Debate: Danny Cannell vs. Brandon Dart
The conflict between Danny Cannell and Brandon Dart shows no signs of slowing down. Recently, on a CBS Sports segment, Cannell expressed doubts about Jackson Dart being the future leader for the Giants, stating there wasn’t enough proof to support that claim. Following the Giants’ victory over the Raiders, with a score of 34-10, Dart responded rather bluntly, saying something like, “Bro, eat that fat guy.”
On Monday, Cannell reiterated his viewpoints on VT Sports. His opening line was casual, even humorous, as he sported a backward No. 6 darts jersey while discussing the situation.
While covering every NFL game on CBS, Cannell shared his thoughts with fellow analysts who mirrored his skepticism about Dart. They seemed ready to retort harshly, but Cannell insisted that their perspective was, well, a bit misguided.
He also expressed confusion about why Brandon Dart was even getting involved in this discourse.
Cannell voiced some support for Jackson Dart, emphasizing he believes the young player has potential, particularly as a late first-round pick. However, he characterized the situation as a significant concern for him. He also questioned why Brandon Dart was seemingly acting as a defender for Jackson when Jackson’s past hasn’t been all that clean, mentioning his history with online conflicts.
“I mean, he doesn’t really need all that. Just let him do his thing,” Cannell suggested, arguing that over-protection might hinder Jackson rather than help him. Criticism, he noted, is part of the game, and while he’s accustomed to being targeted by critics himself, he believes appreciation for Jackson will grow over time.
Cannell later took to X to share a post about the exchange, tagging Brandon Dart directly.
While Cannell has had his doubts about Dart being the long-term solution for the Giants, he does see some rays of hope, believing there’s enough evidence to regard Dart as a solid player for 2026.
Reflecting on the game, Dart completed 22 out of 30 passes, collecting 207 yards without any touchdowns or interceptions. On the ground, he rushed for 48 yards and two touchdowns on nine attempts. Notably, this win robbed the Giants of the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Cannell, who spent six seasons in the NFL and served as the Giants’ starting quarterback until 1997, previously led the team to an NFC East championship, completing that season with impressive stats: 1,740 yards, 11 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.
As the regular season wraps up, the Giants face the Cowboys on Sunday, marking a pivotal moment for both Dart and the team.
