Heroic Rescue by Air Force Sergeant on Christmas Day
An Air Force sergeant was seen rescuing a couple from their SUV after it crashed off the highway on Christmas Day, according to reports.
Staff Sergeant Ruben Tara, stationed at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, was traveling on Route 50 in Northern California with his wife, Yvette, and their 22-month-old daughter shortly after 8 a.m. when they witnessed the disastrous incident.
Tara recalled the moment, saying he felt an immediate rush of adrenaline. “I think the adrenaline is pumping during that time,” he shared. His thoughts quickly turned to his own family. “What would they do if there was a family in that car? Someone has to help,” he said.
Dramatic dashcam footage showed Tara leaping out of his vehicle as the SUV precariously teetered hundreds of feet above a snow-covered embankment.
He grabbed onto the driver’s side door while other bystanders formed a human chain, working together to pull the driver, his wife, and their two dogs to safety.
“I yelled, ‘Do you have a rope? I need a rope,'” Tara recounted, calling out to other drivers who had stopped to assist him. One bystander ran back to his truck to fetch a rope, while others held Tara’s hands to stabilize the vehicle.
Route 50 is known for its treacherous conditions, particularly in winter. Tara later noted that drivers, visibly shaken, expressed their gratitude for the rescue.
“I’m just doing my part to help someone,” Tara commented. He emphasized that his training in the Air Force instilled in him the importance of aiding others in need, regardless of the circumstances.
