Elderly Man Leaves Message in Mailbox, Caregiver Taken into Custody

Desperate Plea for Help Leads to Caregiver’s Arrest

An 81-year-old man in Florida took an unusual step to seek assistance. He left a note in his mailbox asking for police intervention.

A mail carrier discovered the handwritten note and promptly notified the authorities, who then went to the man’s residence. According to reports, the note specifically asked for police to come, pointing towards an alleged assault by his caregiver.

It seems the man had gotten into a heated argument with his caregiver, Dennis Williams, over the state of the bathroom the day before. In a moment of frustration, he attempted to reach out for help, but Williams took away his cell phone, leaving him unable to call anyone.

The man recounted that he had been lying down and trying to retrieve his phone when Williams allegedly jumped on him, leading to a struggle. Williams is accused of not only scratching the man but also taking possession of his car keys and locking himself in a bedroom.

During the incident, the man injured his hand and realized he had no working phone in his home. In a moment of desperation, he penned a note and placed it in his mailbox, hoping someone would come across it.

Fortunately, the postman discovered the note the following day and alerted the police. Officers arrived, interviewed the elderly man, and he provided details about Williams’ vehicle. They eventually located Williams at a gas station.

When confronted, police found that Williams had the man’s debit card and checkbook. She confessed to taking his cell phone and injuring him, and also admitted to disconnecting the home’s landlines.

As a result, Williams was arrested on charges of assaulting a person over 65 and robbery. She is currently being held at the Palm Beach County Jail.

Meanwhile, the elderly man has stated that he is in search of a new caregiver to assist him during his recovery.
