Paranoid Man Accused of Killing Grandmother

A man, reportedly experiencing paranoia, has been accused of murdering his grandmother, telling authorities that an “AI voice” urged her to steal from him.

Franklin Flores, 41, allegedly entered the bedroom of 75-year-old Reina Flores de Hernandez last month, kissed her forehead, and then attacked her with a hatchet, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

In a police report, Flores explained that he believed an AI and an informant were communicating with his grandmother, claiming he was hearing whispers. This was, perhaps, part of a complicated narrative in his mind.

During a welfare check, officers found Hernandez’s body wrapped in a blanket on the bed, covered with numerous wounds. This check occurred after Flores’ wife reported unsettling comments about being “in heaven.”

Law enforcement soon located Flores on a hiking trail and arrested him the same day.

While being questioned, he expressed deep paranoia about his coworkers, alleging that they were involved in human trafficking and planning to harm his family.

Flores seemed convinced that his grandmother was part of a conspiracy to steal his money, believing she was supporting those he felt opposed him. He stated that whispers had given him a “mission” to protect his wife and children, but he claimed that Hernandez foiled his plans by hiding his keys and wallet, which led him to the tragic decision to kill her.

Remarkably, Flores stayed with his grandmother’s body, stating he did so until the “AI voice” told him it was time to leave, which raises some eerie questions about his mental state.

He has been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, and PTSD, although he reportedly does not take any medication for these conditions.

Flores is facing open murder charges in connection with Hernandez’s death. He is currently being held without bail and is set to appear in court on February 4.
