Oregon Senator Rejects Federal Immigration Agents
Oregon State Senator Kayse Jama, who was born in Somalia and practices Islam, recently addressed a press conference with a strong message for federal immigration agents. He declared, “This is Oregon. We don’t need you, you are not welcome, and you must be removed from our communities.”
Jama, a former refugee himself, spoke alongside leaders during the conference. They gathered to respond to a recent incident in Portland involving a shooting with a federal agent, according to local news reports.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported a separate incident on Thursday. It involved two individuals linked to the Venezuelan gang, Tren de Aragua. Authorities shared details of the incident, explaining, “At 2:19 PT, U.S. Border Patrol agents were conducting a targeted vehicle stop in Portland. The vehicle’s occupants were Venezuelan illegal immigrants associated with a prostitution ring and involved in a recent shooting.”
The driver, suspected to be affiliated with the Venezuelan gang, allegedly had a weapon and tried to run over a law enforcement officer when confronted. To protect themselves, agents fired their weapons. The driver then fled the scene with a passenger. They indicated that further updates would be forthcoming.
This situation comes on the heels of a separate event in Minneapolis, where ICE agents fatally shot a woman who reportedly threatened them with a vehicle during an operation.
Back in November, another woman in Portland was accused of obstructing ICE operations amidst a nationwide crackdown on illegal immigration initiated by the Trump administration.
Jama’s remarks resonate with those of Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, who, following the shooting incident, urged ICE to leave the city. “Get the f*** out of Minneapolis,” he stated.
Additionally, Minnesota has faced significant scrutiny recently due to a large-scale fraud case allegedly connected to its Somali community.
