Trump Declines to Intervene in Combs’ Sentencing

In a surprising turn, President Donald Trump stated he wouldn’t intervene in Sean “Diddy” Combs’ prison sentence, even after their two-decade relationship.

Combs is currently serving a 50-month term following charges related to prostitution in 2025.

“I was always friendly with him,” Trump remarked, indicating their good rapport in the past. However, he noted that recent events had altered his perception.

In October, Trump revealed that Combs had reached out for a pardon, a request which was confirmed in a recent conversation with the New York Times. This request was communicated via a letter, although Trump didn’t specify the contents.

Request for Pardon

During an interview with the New York Times, Trump acknowledged Combs’ letter asking for clemency but made it clear he had no plans to honor the request.

Reflecting on their previous friendship, Trump mentioned, “I have many people who ask for forgiveness.” He continued, recalling their past interactions, where he referred to Combs as “Puff Daddy.” He seemed a bit nostalgic, perhaps wishing things were different.

The State of Their Friendship

As previously reported, Trump commented in 2025 about a rift due to some of Combs’ remarks during his campaign. “He seemed like a nice guy, but he became hostile when I ran for office,” Trump remarked. It’s interesting how perspectives can shift, isn’t it? It really shows the complexity of relationships, especially in high-stakes environments like politics.

Yet, Trump added, “I think he was somewhat innocent.” It’s curious how even amidst their fallout, he still retains a level of sympathy for Combs.

Legal Appeal

Meanwhile, Combs has petitioned the Court of Appeals to overturn his conviction, asserting that his actions were mischaracterized and not criminal. His legal team argues that the court’s decision was unjust.

A photograph from 1998, showing Trump and Combs together at an event in Bridgehampton, has resurfaced, serving as a reminder of their friendly past.
