US and Israeli Leaders Discuss Iran Intervention Amid Protests

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently had a phone conversation concerning potential US intervention in Iran. Reports indicated this discussion took place on Saturday, coinciding with Israel being on “high alert” for possible military actions from the US.

This dialogue arises as protests against the Iranian regime have now been ongoing for two weeks, reaching an unprecedented scale. On Saturday, demonstrations erupted across the country after the Iranian government implemented an internet “kill switch,” which, according to cybersecurity specialists, was aimed at obscuring reports of human rights violations committed by security forces. As a result, internet accessibility plummeted.

The speaker of Iran’s parliament, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, issued warnings on Sunday that if the US were to attack, Israeli and US military forces would become “legitimate targets.” Members of parliament responded with shouts of “Death to America!” during his speech, as reported by the Associated Press.

President Trump expressed his solidarity with the protesters on Saturday, stating on Truth Social, “Iran wants freedom more than perhaps ever before. America stands ready to help!!!”

In light of these developments, an Iranian military figure hinted at a potential preemptive strike following Trump’s comments. During a press conference on Friday, Trump discussed the escalating unrest in Iran, mentioning, “Iran is facing big problems. It looks to me like people are taking over certain cities that no one really thought possible just a few weeks ago. We’re monitoring the situation very closely.”

He emphasized that the US would react strongly if large-scale violence occurred. “You hit hard where it hurts,” he noted, while clarifying that this approach doesn’t necessarily mean deploying ground troops, but rather a robust response where it matters most.

Amid these tensions, the situation in Iran remains fluid, with protests intensifying over the last couple of weeks. The US and international community are keeping a close watch as events unfold.
