ICE agent shot by Renee Good experienced internal bleeding and was taken to the hospital after she grazed him with her car.

The immigration officer involved in the shooting of Minneapolis anti-ICE protester Renee Nicole Good sustained cuts and internal bleeding during the incident, according to a Department of Homeland Security official.

ICE officer Jonathan Ross, a veteran, experienced bleeding from his torso, as informed by two U.S. officials to CBS News Wednesday. While details on the extent of his injuries weren’t provided, he was hospitalized after the event, though he was discharged the same day.

After the incident, he was seen leaving the scene in video footage.

Details of the Incident Leading Up to the Shooting

Video recorded by ICE agents shows the tense moments before Renee was shot. At one point, Jonathan Ross approached the right side of Renee’s SUV and moved to the driver’s side. There, Renee calmly assured him, saying, “It’s okay, I’m not mad.”

While the tension built, Ross turned his attention to Rebecca, Renee’s wife, who was outside filming the encounter. Rebecca remarked about the license plate, saying, “[license] I put it on my plate every morning, you know.”

Rebecca then challenged Ross, asking if he wanted to join them for lunch, all while circling the vehicle. As they engaged, she attempted to open the passenger side door, prompting Renee to instruct her, “Drive, baby, drive!” in a moment of urgency.

This command led Renee to reverse the car as Ross, positioned near the front corner on the driver’s side, reported hearing a gunshot. He then fired three shots as the car tried to pull away.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem mentioned that Ross had been in training that day. She added that he received medical treatment and returned home to be with his family.

The Trump administration defended Ross’s actions, stating he was left with no option but to fire, claiming Renee used her vehicle as a “deadly weapon” against law enforcement.

Following the incident, protests erupted, fueled by claims from Democrats and leftist activists who argued that deadly force was not justified in this situation. Good, along with Rebecca, had been engaging with officers prior to the increasingly heated moments that led to the shooting.
