White House Press Secretary Critiques Reporter on ICE Defenses
White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt confronted a reporter from The Hill over the administration’s support for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Niall Stanidge, a White House columnist, pressed Levitt to back Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s claim that ICE is “doing everything right.” He highlighted several tragic incidents, including the mass shooting involving Renee Goode, as well as prior allegations concerning wrongful detentions and deaths in ICE custody.
“We should report the facts,” Stanidge stated, pointing out that 32 individuals died while in ICE custody last year, and that 170 Americans faced wrongful detention. “Given this context, how can you assert that everything is being done right?” he asked.
Levitt responded sharply, questioning why Goode was “tragically killed.” She noted that Stanidge deliberately avoided sharing statistics about ICE’s success in deporting undocumented immigrants and removing violent offenders from the U.S.
“Because ICE officers acted recklessly,” Stanidge retorted.
Levitt then accused him of bias, saying, “Oh, I see! You’re a left-wing reporter with a clear agenda.” She continued, “You’re not a real journalist. Your questions show your bias, and you should strive to report facts.”
Additionally, Levitt criticized Stanidge for neglecting to mention the names of American victims allegedly harmed by illegal immigrants, asserting, “Are you even aware of how many citizens have faced violence from those ICE is working to expel? I doubt you’ve ever read stories of victims like Laken Riley or Jocelyn Nangaray.”
She defended the dedication of ICE officers, saying, “They are working tirelessly to rid our communities of those who threaten public safety. It’s disappointing to see media figures present such a slanted perspective while masquerading as journalists.”
