An email from the Inter Faculty Organization (IFO), which represents faculty at seven Minnesota State University campuses, has surfaced. It urges its members to join in an economic “blackout” to protest federal immigration enforcement in Minneapolis this month.
The IFO email states that the recent uptick in federal immigration actions and the unfortunate murder of Minneapolis resident Renee Good have fostered a climate of fear and instability. It encourages faculty to unite and push for an end to ICE’s presence in Minnesota.
Good was an immigration activist based in Minneapolis and actively engaged with ICE Watch. Following her tragic death last week, the scrutiny on ICE intensified.
A diverse group of Minnesota faith leaders, labor unions, and community organizations is organizing a statewide Truth and Freedom Day on January 23, 2026. The union is asking participants to take a personal day off work or school.
If it’s not feasible to cancel or reschedule classes, they suggest holding a “teach-in” instead, with discussions focused on topics like civil liberties, immigration policy, and community safety.
The email also requests that members refrain from shopping on January 23 as part of the economic blackout. It emphasizes that regardless of attendance, participating in the blackout is a way for members to stand on the right side of history.
The message concludes with a call for solidarity, remarking that Minnesota teachers have the power to advocate for truth, justice, and community safety. It reflects a belief that when neighbors are threatened, workers must respond.
Fox News Digital has tried to obtain comments from both IFO and ICE regarding this situation.
