Michigan mother imprisoned for making false bomb threats to high school after her daughter was excluded from the class play

Mother Sentenced for Bomb Threat Over Daughter’s Illness

It seems that there’s quite a story unfolding in Michigan. A mother has received a 14-day jail sentence for allegedly making a bomb threat to disrupt a local high school play. This drastic measure came after her daughter fell sick and couldn’t perform, which, I suppose, led to some desperate actions.

The threat, made on March 12, resulted in the evacuation of over 700 students, staff, and visitors from Lakeshore High School. Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene, according to various reports.

The school’s administration later informed the community that the threat occurred during an elementary school performance, heightening the situation’s urgency. They assured everyone that, thanks to collaboration with the St. Clair Shores Police Department, everyone was safely evacuated.

The mother, identified as Crystal Royster from Detroit, pleaded guilty to reporting a false bomb threat. She was sentenced to 18 months of probation along with the jail time, following a hearing on January 8. The judge, Michael E. Selvitt, handed down what could be a maximum of four years for the felony charge.

Reportedly, Royster made two calls after discovering that her daughter, who was ill that day, would not be able to take the stage due to school policy. It’s hard to imagine what was going through her mind at that moment.

In addition to her jail time, Royster was instructed to stay away from the victim and notify the school if she needed to be on campus. The implications of her actions caused undeniable chaos and anxiety within the community, as pointed out by prosecutor Peter J. Lucido. While the court deemed probation as a fitting consequence, the disturbance created was significant.

As of now, attempts to reach Royster, the prosecutor’s office, and the school have gone unanswered.
