Amy Poehler Shares Airplane Argument Story on Podcast
Amy Poehler, known for her Golden Globe-winning roles, recently recounted a memorable confrontation with a fellow airplane passenger during a podcast episode. This incident is a reminder of the unique tensions that can arise in cramped travel spaces, as etiquette experts highlighted.
On her podcast, “Good Hang,” where she chats with her “Mean Girls” co-star Ana Gasteyer, Poehler reflected on the argument that occurred while they were filming a comedy in 2004. Gasteyer recalled that Poehler’s young daughter, Frances, was also present on that flight.
“I got into a fight with a guy,” Gasteyer shared. “Do you remember that?”
Poehler responded, quipping, “So I still got into a fight with a guy with a baby?” Gasteyer elaborated that a first-class passenger objected to Poehler’s loud language and swearing, especially in front of a child.
As the atmosphere grew tense, other passengers reportedly asked Poehler to quiet down. She humorously noted, “My ‘Boston’ is out, let’s just say that.” Gasteyer, meanwhile, described the event as one of the funniest moments she’d witnessed.
Diane Gottesman, a national etiquette expert, explained that situations like this can become quite uncomfortable in airplane cabins. She emphasized that while some passengers might hesitate to confront celebrities, the discomfort still permeates the space. “We feel the need to protect innocent people, which makes this issue even more sensitive,” Gottesman added.
Flight attendants can address disruptive behavior regardless of the passenger’s status, highlighting the priority of maintaining a peaceful environment.
Poehler’s podcast, which debuted less than a year ago, has featured notable guests such as Tina Fey and Ariana Grande. In her Golden Globe acceptance speech, Poehler expressed gratitude toward fellow nominees and respect for the podcast medium.
She won a Globe Award in 2014 for her role as Leslie Knope in “Parks and Recreation.” The podcast features lighthearted conversations with celebrities about their careers and experiences, aiming to create an enjoyable atmosphere rather than provide advice.
