U.S. Invites Multiple Countries to Join Peace Commission
The United States has officially extended invitations to several foreign governments to become part of President Donald Trump’s Peace Commission. Six nations have confirmed their participation as of Sunday: Jordan, Greece, Cyprus, Pakistan, Hungary, and India.
Additionally, Canada, Turkey, Egypt, Paraguay, Argentina, and Albania are also reported to have received invitations.
On Friday, the White House shared details regarding the next steps for President Trump’s plan for peace in Gaza. This includes appointing senior international officials tasked with overseeing governance, reconstruction efforts, and long-term development in the region.
The statement explained, “The Peace Commission will play a key role in implementing all 20 points of the President’s Plan, including providing strategic oversight, mobilizing international resources, and ensuring accountability as Gaza moves from conflict to peace and development.”
Trump is set to chair the commission, which will include notable figures from political, diplomatic, and business spheres. This group comprises Jared Kushner, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff, and billionaire Mark Rowan.
Furthermore, the Gaza Executive Committee will collaborate with the Office of the High Representative and the National Committee for Gaza Administration to drive “peace, stability, and prosperity.”
Interestingly, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Qatari diplomat Ali al-Tawadi have also been selected as members of this appointed group.
However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has expressed concerns, stating that the formation of the Gaza Executive Committee hasn’t been coordinated with them and contradicts Israeli policies.
In a recent communication, Netanyahu directed Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar to reach out to Rubio to voice Israel’s apprehensions.
As part of Trump’s plan, Hamas is expected to release all hostages held in Gaza, both living and deceased. So far, one deceased hostage, Ran Gviri, has not been returned.
The White House noted that more members of the executive committee will be announced in the weeks ahead.
