Don Lemon Calls Churchgoers Targeted by Anti-ICE Protesters 'Privileged White Supremacists'

Don Lemon Supports Disrupted Church Service Protest

On Monday, former CNN host Don Lemon expressed his backing for a group that interrupted a church service in Minnesota, suggesting that the congregants exhibited racist behavior.

Harmeet Dhillon, the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights, pointed out that Benny Johnson, a podcaster, claimed Lemon might face charges for breaching the Free Clinic Admissions Act, despite his assertion that he was engaging in journalism. During his appearance on the “I’ve Had It Podcast News,” Lemon shared that he felt targeted by the Trump administration due to his race and sexuality while addressing the parishioners at Cities Church.

Lemon argued, “I think there’s clearly racism there. They’re trying to detain people on the street based on their accent or skin color. It’s not only targeting brown people but also people of color and Black individuals.” He added that there seems to be a sense of entitlement tied to this behavior.

He continued, mentioning his beliefs about the church’s congregants: “I don’t think those who belong to that religious group reflect the Christianity I believe in, yet they have rights that stem from a history of white supremacy. They seem to believe this country was founded for them alone, and that leaves out others seeking religious freedom.”

Lemon arrived at the church approximately 40 minutes into the service and broadcasted footage of the ensuing chaos on his YouTube channel. At that moment, he greeted Nekima Levi Armstrong, the leader of the group that stormed the church.

Discussing Armstrong’s actions, Lemon stated, “She’s doing something unprecedented since the events surrounding George Floyd and Dante Wright. It’s a means to catch people off-guard and hold them accountable.”

While Lemon claimed on Sunday that he was unaware of the plan to target the church, he seemed to know the group’s destination at the start of a livestream. He said, “These operations are surprise operations. I can’t disclose where they are headed or where we’re gathering now.”
