Erica Kirk Seeks Speedy Trial for Husband’s Alleged Assassin
Erica Kirk’s legal team has requested a prompt trial for Tyler Robinson, accused of murdering her husband, Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA (TPUSA).
On Friday, Ms. Kirk’s attorney, Jeffrey Neiman, criticized Robinson’s lawyers for what he described as an “unreasonable” delay in the case. Robinson, who is 22, is charged with fatally shooting Kirk at a TPUSA event at Utah Valley University back in September 2025.
“Utah law grants victims the right to an expedient resolution of charges, without undue delay by the defendant, and to quickly conclude all post-judgment matters,” Neiman stated in a court submission.
Exercising her rights as a victim under Utah law, Mrs. Kirk advocates for a swift trial.
“While ensuring fair trials for defendants is crucial, the court must also uphold Mrs. Kirk’s right to a speedy trial,” the filing noted.
As of now, Robinson has not pleaded or had a preliminary hearing, which is essential in Utah. This hearing allows a judge to ascertain if there is sufficient evidence to advance to trial.
Robinson is set to appear in court on February 3rd. This follows his defense’s attempt to remove the prosecutor from the case, citing a conflict of interest. They argued that a county attorney’s deputy, involved in the prosecution, had a child in attendance during Kirk’s shooting. However, the prosecution has dismissed these claims.
