Post-Game Reflections on Carson Beck’s Performance
For Carson Beck, the Miami quarterback, it seems that class is more or less irrelevant.
Reports circulated online indicating that he didn’t shake hands with Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza following the 27-21 loss on Monday night. After making a critical interception that sealed Indiana’s victory, Beck headed straight to the locker room, seemingly without looking back.
During the game, Beck racked up 232 passing yards, threw one touchdown, but also had an interception in a tough fourth quarter where Indiana capitalized on defense and Mendoza’s impressive touchdown run.
That interception came just as the first half was winding down, ultimately concluding the Hurricanes’ season.
Once the play ended, Indiana erupted in celebration, needing only to kneel twice to run out the clock. As the final seconds ticked away, Indiana’s coach, Curt Cignetti, was drenched in blue Gatorade, marking the moment.
As the game concluded, Beck was seen darting off the field, headed toward the locker room without engaging with any Indiana players.
Despite the loss, it’s noteworthy that Beck is expected to earn over $3 million this season as a redshirt sixth-grader. Interestingly, he mentioned to reporters that he hasn’t attended a class since graduating in 2023.
On a personal note, Beck experienced a tough time last February when both his Lamborghini and Mercedes were stolen, alongside his then-girlfriend Hannah Cavinder’s car.
After the game, Beck reflected, saying, “This year in Miami was the best of my life,” even though the ultimate goal—a national title—eluded them.
Meanwhile, while criticism of Beck swirled, Miami running back Mark Fletcher Jr. made a point to approach Mendoza, shaking his hand. Beck, on the other hand, left with his helmet still fastened tightly.
“It’s tough to finish like that. Really tough,” Beck acknowledged, though he tried to focus on the resilience of the team. “For a group that has faced so much adversity, to finally have a chance to win says a lot about us.”
Looking ahead, Beck is now gearing up for the NFL Draft, where he ranks as the fifth-best quarterback, according to ESPN’s Mel Kiper. He trails behind notable names like Penn State’s Drew Allard and Mendoza of Indiana.
