Unauthorized Migrant Tried to Charge Border Agents with Vehicle in Protected California

Illegal Immigrant Allegedly Uses Vehicle as Weapon in Los Angeles

A suspected illegal immigrant and human smuggler is accused of using his car to assault federal immigration officials while attempting to flee in Southern California.

William Eduardo Moran Carballo, a Salvadoran national with a lengthy criminal record and residing unlawfully in the U.S., reportedly rammed his vehicle into a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer during an operation in Compton on Wednesday morning, as stated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). This incident adds to a troubling trend of individuals using vehicles against law enforcement officials.

“In a reckless attempt to avoid arrest, this criminal illegal alien had a weapon in his vehicle and attacked law enforcement,” a DHS spokesperson shared. “Concerned for their safety, the officers fired defensive shots.”

The spokesperson also noted, “The criminal did not get hit and tried to escape on foot, but was ultimately captured by the authorities. While he was unharmed, a CBP officer did sustain injuries.”

According to DHS, Moran-Carballo is considered a “violent criminal” linked to human smuggling and has previously faced arrests for inflicting bodily harm on his spouse and cohabitant. An immigration judge had issued a final order for his removal in 2019.

Wednesday’s incident drew criticism from the Trump administration toward California’s Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom for not cooperating adequately with federal immigration authorities regarding the case.

“Since sanctuary policies were encouraged by politicians like Governor Newsom, aimed at aiding illegal immigrants in evading capture, there has been a significant increase in dangerous attempts to flee from law enforcement,” a DHS spokesperson mentioned. “Our officers are currently dealing with a 3,200% rise in vehicle attacks.”

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first instance of such attacks in Compton, as there have been multiple high-profile events recently.

For example, Luis Nino-Moncada, an illegal immigrant from Venezuela allegedly affiliated with the Torren de Aragua gang, reportedly used a prostitute’s car to ram into a Border Patrol agent during an operation in Portland, Oregon, earlier this January. Nino-Moncada repeatedly drove his vehicle back and forth, leading to a confrontation between Border Patrol agents and himself as well as the escort.

In another incident in October in the Los Angeles area, an illegal immigrant who had previously escaped custody reportedly rammed his vehicle into federal officers while attempting to flee, prompting them to fire in self-defense. This led to injuries for both the migrant and one of the agents.

Earlier this year, in January, Renee Goode was shot and killed by ICE agents in Minneapolis. The incident occurred when he obstructed an enforcement action and tried to ram a vehicle into an agent, prompting defensive gunfire. This resulted in considerable backlash from Democrats in Minnesota and nationwide.
