San Antonio Socialists Commemorate Trump Anniversary with a Modest Anti-ICE Protest Close to the Alamo

Protest in San Antonio Marks Trump’s Inauguration Anniversary

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A gathering of fewer than 100 members of the Socialism and Liberation Party (PSL) along with their supporters took to the streets of downtown San Antonio. They held a protest and march to commemorate the first anniversary of President Donald J. Trump’s inauguration. Marching near the historic Alamo, the socialists kicked off their demonstration after staging a protest close to City Hall on a Tuesday evening.

Breitbart Texas observed the events, noting they echoed recent nationwide protests organized by the PSL. The marchers displayed some provocative signs and chanted slogans directed at President Trump, U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement (ICE), wealthy individuals, and the U.S. Border Patrol.

In footage from the event, voices could be heard chanting, “Trump is lying, can’t you see? No more maritime bombing,” likely a jab at recent U.S. military actions against drug-trafficking groups in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific. One participant notably wore a mask inscribed with “F&^% ICE,” while others carried Mexican flags.

The video captured a largely peaceful procession along mostly empty streets, as many tourists typically visit the area on weekends. There were dramatic exchanges among some participants, yet no physical altercations occurred. The march was supervised by bicycle and motorcycle units from the San Antonio Police Department.

Later in the footage, some shouting resumed, but it quickly dissipated. With a population exceeding 1.5 million, San Antonio is the second-largest city in Texas, making the modest turnout even more noticeable. Earlier in the day, over 100 students also participated in a walkout at Taft High School, coinciding with the protest.

In December, this group protested a police raid on an illegal nightclub north of San Antonio that resulted in the arrest of 51 members belonging to the violent Venezuelan gang, Torren de Aragua.

According to Breitbart Texas, the local PSL chapter is shifting its focus from pro-Hamas demonstrations amid the Gaza conflict to addressing federal law enforcement issues concerning Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua gang and expressing support for the detained socialist President Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela. The group has quickly adapted to include recent incidents, such as the Minneapolis ICE shooting, in their ongoing protests.
