Sen. Ted Cruz Returns to Texas Ahead of Winter Storm
Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) made his way back to Texas on Friday after a photo of him boarding a plane became a trending topic online. This happened just as the state prepared for a significant winter storm.
On Friday, Cruz seemed to be lighthearted about the situation, responding to the buzz about his potential absence while constituents were dealing with severe weather. He posted on X, remarking, “I’m back from a business trip. It’s 66 degrees and a beautiful day. There’s a storm forecast tomorrow night.”
He added a touch of sarcasm, saying, “But we’re reliably informed by Twitter that if we just raise our hands on Texas soil, the storm will turn and we’ll see sunshine and rainbows and unicorns. Let’s just leave it at that.”
This comes as many are bracing for winter weather; President Trump, in a separate context, made some remarks towards climate change skeptics, saying, “Global warming?”
Back in 2021, Cruz faced backlash for flying to Cancun with his family while Texas struggled with a winter storm that left millions without power, resulting in 246 fatalities. He later acknowledged that his decision was “obviously a mistake.”
His recent comments were in response to a photo on X that depicted him on a plane said to be heading to Laguna Beach, California, earlier in the week.
The post quickly gained traction, receiving over 9 million views, with people both defending and criticizing Cruz. One commenter noted, “I noticed a pattern.”
A spokesperson for Cruz confirmed that his trip was planned in advance, and he intended to come back before the bad weather hit.
According to FOX Weather, this storm is projected to impact around 235 million Americans across 40 states, bringing dangerously cold temperatures, heavy snowfall, and ice to various regions.
