Philip Rivers No Longer Considered for Buffalo Bills Head Coach Position

NFL legend Philip Rivers has reportedly been removed from consideration for the head coaching role with the Buffalo Bills, even though his interview received positive feedback.

Rivers announced his resignation on Monday morning, according to various sources. He was among a select few being evaluated to succeed Sean McDermott, who was let go last week after a tough playoff defeat against the Denver Broncos.

The former quarterback had recently interviewed for the position after playing this past season with the Indianapolis Colts. Initially, he started off as the head coach for his high school team but transitioned into a starting role due to an injury to Daniel Jones, who ruptured his Achilles tendon.

Interestingly, Rivers never managed to win a game against the Colts, which ultimately dashed Indianapolis’ playoff hopes. His participation in the league this season reset the Hall of Fame eligibility clock, even though he was seemingly on the verge of being inducted this year.

The Bills appeared to view Rivers as a viable candidate for the head coach position. NFL insider Ian Rapoport remarked recently that “one of the biggest stories of the year is Rivers being back on the field, which is just incredible.” He noted that Rivers had undergone several in-person interviews for the Buffalo head coach job and that serious considerations were being made regarding his candidacy.

Beyond Rivers, the Bills also held interviews with candidates such as Grant Wudynski, Anthony Lynn, Anthony Weaver, Lou Anarumo, Brian Daboll, and Joe Brady.
