Concerns Rise Over Police-Federal Agent Interaction in Alhambra

A video showing police aiding federal Border Patrol agents in a city near Los Angeles has sparked fear and anger among residents. The footage, filmed by Alhambra local Angie Vargas, captures the moment an Alhambra police SUV abruptly intervened while she was recording what she thought were federal agents.

In the clip, Vargas is seen asking an officer whether she is cooperating with the investigation, leading the officer to inquire about her citizenship. The interaction has raised eyebrows and prompted questions about local law enforcement’s role in federal immigration matters.

The Alhambra police department denied any collaboration with immigration officials, stating that officers were simply responding to reports of vehicles behaving erratically. They explained that officers parked their vehicle to de-escalate a situation involving a car that had run a red light and made an illegal U-turn.

Since the incident, Vargas has organized a protest alongside hundreds of other residents, who gathered at an Alhambra City Council meeting to voice their concerns regarding potential cooperation between local police and Border Patrol.
