Pritzker Compares Current Political Climate to Pandemic
During a podcast on Tuesday, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker suggested that the current political situation might be “slightly worse” than the coronavirus pandemic, despite the significant loss of life attributed to the virus.
Speaking with podcast host Jennifer Welch, Pritzker reflected on daily challenges many face today. He said he often gets asked if the difficulties under the Trump administration resemble what people experienced during the pandemic. His response was perhaps telling: he believes the current political climate is even more challenging than the pandemic.
“It was a big deal,” he noted, elaborating that, although the pandemic resulted in numerous fatalities due to Trump’s handling of it, this political moment is quite daunting. The Illinois governor previously drew troubling parallels between the Trump administration and the emergence of Nazi Germany.
Pritzker stated that right-wing critics had attacked him for making such comparisons back in 2025. Yet, he feels these observations are becoming increasingly recognized, as more Democrats begin to express similar concerns about the current political landscape.
When asked about his potential presidential aspirations for 2028, Pritzker acknowledged that discussing such ambitions feels premature, considering he is currently vying for re-election as governor—a feat that’s quite unusual in Illinois.
He expressed his deep worries about the state of the nation and emphasized his intention to use his platform to raise awareness and promote change. Pritzker also addressed his wealth, noting ongoing criticisms from progressives and reaffirming his commitment to tax reform aimed at helping the working class while advocating for higher taxes on the wealthy.
The White House has yet to respond to inquiries regarding Pritzker’s remarks.
