Rep. Moulton Defends Comparisons of ICE to Nazi Germany

On Tuesday, Rep. Seth Moulton, a Democrat from Massachusetts, stated that drawing parallels between U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Nazi Germany isn’t an extreme viewpoint.

In an interview with CNN, Moulton remarked, “I don’t think the comparison to Nazi Germany is extreme. Because that’s what happened.” He highlighted how, in Germany, the populace began to accept the targeting of specific community members, with state agents executing these actions often in violation of the law. “But that’s what’s happening in Minneapolis today,” he claimed.

Moulton noted that the residents he represents in Massachusetts feel a sense of vulnerability, fearing they could also be targeted. His comments about ICE aren’t new; he’s raised similar concerns in the past.

Another public figure, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, has also likened ICE to the Gestapo, highlighting the agency’s contentious reputation. “Donald Trump’s modern-day Gestapo is scooping people off the streets,” Walz mentioned during a commencement speech, drawing sharp criticism for that analogy.

Following recent tensions, public sentiment against ICE has intensified, especially after the shooting of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis, which has spurred protests nationwide. Good’s death occurred during an encounter with an ICE officer after she allegedly veered her vehicle toward him.

Democratic leaders have voiced calls for reform or even the abolishment of ICE in response to the tragedy. Public figures, including author Stephen King and musician Bruce Springsteen, have expressed similar critiques of the agency, reflecting a growing discontent with its operations.
