Trump Criticizes NFL Hall of Fame Voters for Overlooking Bill Belichick

President Trump has criticized the voters of the NFL Hall of Fame after Bill Belichick failed to gain enough votes for induction on the first ballot this year.

The president, who is an avid sports fan, took to his Truth Social account to express his disappointment, blaming predominantly left-leaning sports reporters for the snub.

“This aligns with the mentality that introduced a new, questionable ‘weak’ kickoff rule in professional football, which could be a factor in why Belichick wasn’t inducted into the Hall of Fame,” Trump stated on Tuesday. “Both situations are absurd and ought to be reconsidered!”

Belichick is moving from the professional league to college football in 2023 and was eligible for the NFL Hall of Fame this year. However, he was informed that he didn’t meet the necessary vote count for induction this summer in Canton, Ohio.

Some reports suggest that Belichick’s support for Trump may have influenced leftist sports media members’ decisions to withhold their votes.

He was among five candidates for the Hall of Fame from his division. Patriots owner Robert Kraft participated, along with players Roger Craig, Ken Anderson, and LC Greenwood, who are set to be inducted in 2026.

Despite the backlash, Belichick remains one of the most successful coaches in NFL history. He began his coaching career as an assistant with the Baltimore Colts in 1975, later securing a head coaching position with the Cleveland Browns in 1991. By 2000, he was leading the New England Patriots, securing six Super Bowl titles. In total, he has coached in the Super Bowl twelve times, winning eight—more than any other coach in NFL history.

Reports have stated that issues surrounding the Spygate and Deflategate controversies emerged in discussions about his Hall of Fame candidacy, possibly contributing to the unfavorable perception.

Regardless, the decision regarding Belichick’s induction has drawn widespread criticism from players, coaches, and fans across the league.
