Border Official Homan: Federal agents have found 145,000 unaccompanied undocumented children to date

Concerns Over Unaccompanied Children Crossing Borders

Tom Homan, designated as the border czar, recently revealed that around 145,000 unaccompanied and unauthorized children have been identified among the more than 300,000 minors permitted entry into the United States by the Biden administration.

Homan stated, “The dedicated and caring professionals at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) will go unrecognized as the Biden administration hands them over to unvetted sponsors. We’re actively working to uncover the whereabouts of countless individuals and are engaged in numerous investigations related to the over 300,000 unaccompanied alien children who have gone missing,” he wrote in a recent post. “So far, thanks to their exceptional work, we’ve managed to locate over 145,000 of these children.”

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has expressed concerns about the dangers faced by thousands of unaccompanied children crossing borders as part of its Blue Campaign. This initiative aims to raise awareness about human trafficking, covering prevention and protection for vulnerable individuals.

DHS explained, “These children frequently endure perilous journeys that expose them to human traffickers, smugglers, and other individuals who may exploit their vulnerabilities. What starts as an escape to safety can quickly turn into a route to exploitation.”

Once an unaccompanied alien child is apprehended, they are transferred to the ORR, which aims to place the child in a safe environment under the care of an approved sponsor who will ensure their basic needs and support are met while awaiting immigration proceedings. This sponsor must pass a background check and guarantee attendance at the immigration hearings.

Despite these serious dangers, the Biden administration has permitted many children to enter the country illegally—this issue is expected to be a significant talking point in Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign.

Homan remarked, “President Trump has committed to locating these children. Under his leadership and consistent backing, our allies in various agencies are working diligently to accomplish this.”

Homan made his announcement as January wrapped up, a month designated for raising awareness about human trafficking. His recent assignment to lead ICE operations in Minnesota coincides with recent police actions that led to fatal encounters involving anti-ICE protesters.

In a news briefing, Homan criticized Democratic figures calling for ICE’s withdrawal from the state, expressing confusion over their inaction during previous troubling trends. “Where have they been for the last four years as sex-trafficked individuals reached unprecedented levels?” he asked rhetorically.
