On Friday, President Trump highlighted his view that the recent tariff initiatives had successfully sparked what he termed an “American economic miracle,” while placing blame on Democrats for a significant budget deficit.
In a piece for the Wall Street Journal, he claimed that his extensive tariffs had revitalized a “dead” economy, making it the “hottest” in the world.
“When I imposed historic tariffs on nearly every foreign country last April, critics warned that my policies would lead to a global economic collapse,” Trump stated.
“But instead, they sparked the American economic miracle, and we are quickly on our way to creating the largest economy ever seen, with other nations following suit!”
He criticized those who doubted him and insisted he had proven them wrong.
“Numerous so-called experts, especially those who often appear in the Wall Street Journal, eagerly predicted that my tariffs would lead to stock market crashes, stunted economic growth, rampant inflation, harm to American exports, and even a ‘global recession,'” he continued.
“Now, nine months later, we can see clearly. Each of those predictions was utterly incorrect. Since my election in 2024, stocks have reached new highs 52 times, and inflation has been almost nonexistent. Such a thing has never happened before!”
Trump asserted that the tariffs had effectively reduced the federal budget deficit by 27% and the monthly trade deficit by an impressive 77%.
He also pointed out significant gains: U.S. exports rising by $150 billion, factory construction up 42% since 2022, and domestic steel production increasing by over 300,000 tons monthly. Furthermore, he noted that China’s share of U.S. exports had dropped to its lowest point since 2001.
In his remarks, Trump criticized former President Biden, alleging that his “radical policies” had devastated the economy, leading to “trillions” wasted, the worst inflation seen in decades, and the highest trade deficit ever recorded.
“Tariffs are what gave America strength for generations, and they are what have made our country stronger, safer, and more prosperous today,” he declared, reinforcing his America First approach.
Given the outcomes from last year and the strong economic figures being released consistently, he suggested that perhaps it’s time for the skeptics of his tariffs to rethink their stance: “Maybe they should put on my favorite red hat, the one that says ‘Trump was right about everything.’”
