Saturday Night Live Takes on ICE Again

“Saturday Night Live” skewered Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) once more during its latest episode, with a scene showing Border Patrol Agent Tom Homan and ICE agents braving the chilly weather.

Pete Davidson, in the role of Homan, kicked things off with, “My name is Tom Homan. Now, I’m sure many of you are asking why the previous guy, Greg Bovino, was let go.” He continued, “It’s not because he did a poor job or made false claims about shooting Americans—or even dressed like a Nazi. No, it’s simply because he got caught on camera doing those things. Unlike the president.”

The show didn’t hold back in last week’s “Weekend Update” segment either. Davidson was curious about the agents’ presence in Minneapolis, and one of the agents simply replied, “Pass.”

In another exchange within the skit, Davidson pressed the agents, once more asking, “So, guys, what are you doing in Minneapolis?”

“I could be mistaken, but… Army?” another agent speculated.

“We’re here to detain and deport illegal immigrants who have committed crimes,” Davidson, as Homan, stated.

To which the agent responded, “Literally, that’s the first time I’ve heard about it.”

Davidson inquired further, “Well, that can’t be accurate. Can you tell me what you were instructed to do?” The agent replied, “Extinct.”

SNL had also made a quip about ICE during a live show earlier in the month.

In a separate moment, there were plans for a personal monologue by new cast member Tommy Brennan, who hails from St. Paul, for the January 17 episode marking the return from a holiday break. However, the roughly four-minute piece didn’t make it to the live broadcast. This last-minute cut is not particularly unusual. Producer Lorne Michaels frequently trims sketches due to timing issues.

The monologue was later shared on the official “Saturday Night Live” YouTube channel, as the show routinely uploads performances that, for various reasons, didn’t air during the live show.
