ICE Operation Results in Over 650 Arrests in West Virginia
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have apprehended more than 650 undocumented immigrants in West Virginia during a two-week operation that, interestingly, took place without any protests. This operation was carried out in collaboration with local law enforcement, as federal authorities revealed on Sunday.
According to ICE, the initiative occurred from January 5 to January 19 and included 14 federal, state, and local law enforcement partners. Teams were deployed to cities including Charleston, Martinsburg, Beckley, Moorefield, Morgantown, and Huntington.
The arrests targeted individuals deemed a threat to public safety or national security, alongside those identified as illegal immigrants. One notable case involved Sagar Singh, an Indian national caught on January 8 for failing to stop at a mandatory brake checkpoint while driving a commercial vehicle. Singh faced multiple charges, including operating a dangerous vehicle, and had a prior removal order from the U.S.
In addition to Singh, the operation led to the arrest of another foreign national, Lin Yang, also known as Yang Ning, who had been convicted of endangering the welfare of a child. The operation also resulted in the capture of a convicted child molester and several other criminals.
Michael Rose, the Acting Director of ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Philadelphia, stated that the operation highlighted the effectiveness of the partnership between ICE and West Virginia law enforcement in enhancing public safety. He emphasized training and supporting local law enforcement to better identify and apprehend illegal immigrants while maintaining professionalism and legal compliance.
Jefferson County Sheriff Tom Hansen remarked on the impressive work and professionalism displayed by investigators during the operation. He noted that their ability to engage with residents and local law enforcement made the collaboration a success, reinforcing their commitment to community safety by removing potentially dangerous criminals.
