China Unveils Futuristic Warship Plans

China has announced ambitious plans for a “Star Wars”-inspired warship, claiming it could potentially deploy unmanned fighter jets and even launch hypersonic missiles from space.

On Tuesday, state media showcased a dramatic video that depicted the aircraft carrier, named Luang Niao, soaring at the edge of the atmosphere while firing missiles and engaging in aerial combat.

According to the Chinese government, this massive warship will be around 800 feet long, making it the largest of its kind in the world.

In addition, state reports mentioned that the aircraft carrier would be capable of carrying up to 88 unmanned Suannou fighter jets.

Interestingly, they anticipate that this triangular warship could become operational within the next three decades, which feels, well, a bit ambitious.

The Luanniao project, developed by the China Aviation Industry Corporation, is part of broader initiatives aimed at significantly enhancing China’s air and space capabilities.

However, this announcement has drawn skepticism. Critics argue that such plans might be more about show than substance, with some even labeling it a “stunt.”

Peter Leighton, a defense expert, mentioned that for outside observers, it might seem like they are advancing technologies far beyond current regional capabilities. It really does feel like something out of Star Wars, doesn’t it? He pointed out that the necessary technology to realize these objectives isn’t available yet, emphasizing that it would require an enormous amount of fuel and a propulsion system that still needs to be developed.

Moreover, Leighton highlighted that the Chinese government is known for using propaganda to motivate its citizens and showcase its supposed leadership in technological innovation.
