Sen. Blake Miguez Changes Course in Louisiana Political Race
Louisiana Republican Senator Blake Miguez announced Tuesday that he is stepping back from the Senate race and will instead seek to replace retiring Republican Representative Julia Letlow in the House.
Letlow declared her Senate candidacy in January, aiming to unseat Republican Senator Bill Cassidy, shortly after receiving Donald Trump’s endorsement. Miguez, who had initiated his Senate campaign against Cassidy in June 2025, mentioned that he will be reallocating his efforts and resources toward legislative proposals that align with Trump’s policies, as stated in a post on social media.
Cassidy was among the seven Republicans who chose to convict Trump during the 2021 impeachment trial that followed the events of January 6 at the Capitol.
In his statement, Miguez emphasized his commitment to supporting Trump’s vision. “When I started my Senate campaign last year, I pledged to the people of Louisiana that I would stand by President Trump and advocate for policies that prioritize Louisiana families,” he noted. “I remain committed to that promise and am prepared to represent initiatives that will further President Trump’s mission to enhance our country.”
Miguez also pointed out the significant contributions his campaign has received recently. Beginning with a fundraising total of $3.6 million, he reported raising $1.75 million in the last financial quarter of 2025.
“We have established a coalition in Louisiana that upholds conservative principles and demands accountability from Washington. I will consistently prioritize America and hold leaders accountable for adhering to the MAGA agenda, independent of their party affiliation,” Miguez declared.
Miguez has been a member of the Louisiana State Senate since 2024, following a nine-year stint in the state House of Representatives, including a role as majority leader for four years.
