New documentary series examines the Robert Durst murder case.

Information regarding the body of a woman named Lake has led to a lengthy investigation concerning Robert Durst, a billionaire real estate heir. A documentary titled “Did he kill everyone? The Robert Durst investigation” explores Durst’s complicated journey from New York to Texas and California. It features insights from those closely linked to the case—investigators, friends, family members, and even the judge who handled one of his notable trials.

In the series, Durst is depicted as “bizarre” and distinctly unlike a common murderer. It revisits significant events involving the disappearance of his wife, Kathleen “Cathy” McCormack Durst, as well as the murders of Susan Berman, a friend, and Morris Black, a neighbor. As of now, Kathy’s whereabouts remain unknown.

Eighteen years after Kathy’s disappearance, then-Westchester County District Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced plans to reopen the investigation, now treating it as a homicide case. Shortly after, in November, Durst relocated to Galveston, Texas, to escape the media frenzy surrounding Kathy’s case. He would communicate with his landlord through letters, pretending to be a mute woman named Dorothy Sinner, and it was in Galveston that he befriended Morris Black.

Durst faced trial for Black’s murder, where he testified that they had an argument over a gun, leading to him shooting Black in self-defense. He even admitted in court to dismembering Black’s body. Ultimately, the jury acquitted him.

At a subsequent trial, Durst asserted, “I did not kill Susan Berman, but if I did, I would lie.” Despite his claims, he was convicted of first-degree murder for shooting Berman at her home in the Los Angeles area. After a drawn-out legal saga, he received a life sentence without the possibility of parole. Prosecutors suggested that he killed Kathy to prevent her from revealing that she had provided him with a false alibi following her disappearance.

Durst’s time evading authorities included many unexpected developments, all chronicled in the special “Did He Kill Everyone?” available for streaming now.
