The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) confirmed on Tuesday that a shooting incident occurred at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in British Columbia, resulting in at least one suspect being found dead. Authorities indicated that they are still looking into the possibility of a second suspect and are working to determine the total number of victims affected.
According to the Tumbler Ridge RCMP, “At this time we have not confirmed the number of people injured or in need of assistance.”
Police have issued a state of alert in the area, urging residents to stay indoors, secure their homes, and refrain from venturing out. Additional police forces from nearby detachments are being deployed, including the North Area Emergency Response Team.
The Peace River South School District noted on its website that both Tumbler Ridge Middle School and Tumbler Ridge Elementary School are secured and under lockdown due to the incident. School officials are asking for public patience as they coordinate with the RCMP.
Peace River South MLA Larry Neufeld expressed his concern via social media, stating he was en route to the scene. He mentioned, “I am aware of the current shooting incident in Tumbler Ridge and my thoughts are with the residents as this situation continues to develop.” Neufeld indicated he is in communication with the Attorney General to ensure local authorities have the necessary resources during this time.
“Public safety is our absolute priority. We urge everyone in the community to follow instructions from the RCMP, continue to evacuate, and rely only on official updates,” he added, emphasizing his commitment to support the community as the situation evolves.
This is an ongoing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
