North Carolina Candidate Admits Progressive Stance
A video featuring a congressional candidate from North Carolina acknowledging her progressive beliefs while running as a Republican has gained significant attention online.
Katie Barr, who is contesting the 14th Congressional District, was asked on the podcast “The Hometown Holler” whether she was attempting to mislead voters. She answered candidly, explaining that her campaign site makes it clear she’s “not a real Republican.” Barr mentioned how she honestly tells voters, “I’m running in the Republican primary, but I’m not a Republican, I’m a progressive.” She expressed that she can’t identify as a Democrat any longer.
Emphasizing her transparency, Barr stated that her intention is not to play any tricks, but rather to be upfront about what she would do if elected.
On November 6, Barr officially filed to challenge Tim Moore, the current Republican representative for North Carolina’s 14th District. Her campaign website indicates she’s running as a Republican because “it’s the only way to remove corrupt cowards from power,” alleging that Republicans have manipulated electoral maps to ensure their victories.
According to Barr’s site, “the general election has already been decided, so the only contest for this job is in the primary.”
In a statement, Barr reiterated her commitment to honesty regarding her identity and governance plans, saying, “Tim Moore is a scary person for voters in the 14th District. He’s using his position to get rich while voters are struggling.” She criticized Moore for allegedly rigging the race to maintain his position, asserting she aims to provide voters with a genuine choice.
While Barr has faced criticism for her approach, with some labeling it deceptive, others, including conservative commentators, argue that it may not be as significant an issue as some perceive.
One activist remarked on social media that Barr is open about her views and that it’s a central part of her campaign platform.
