James Van Der Beek, best known for his role on “Dawson’s Creek,” passed away this week at the age of 48 following a fight with colorectal cancer.

He gained notoriety as an aspiring filmmaker on the ’90s teen drama but later appeared in various projects, including “Don’t Trust the B in Apt. 23” and “The Rules of Attraction.” His most recent television appearance was in the prequel series to “Legally Blonde,” titled “Elle,” set to debut this July.

In this comedy for Viceland, Van Der Beek co-wrote, produced, and starred as a fictionalized DJ Diplo, who was heavily involved in the production.
